First Presbyterian Church of Giddings
Making new friends since 1876.
WELCOME!
We are so glad you are here.
We’re small enough to care,
big enough to make a difference.
For over 148 years, we have been Giddings' only Presbyterian church welcoming all people to worship with us. Reverend Monica Thompson Smith on Sundays at 9:30 am.
The church celebrated its 148th anniversary this year, having been organized on April 28, 1876, under the direction of Rev. B.H. Byers, D.D., and thirteen charter members. Ten years later, in 1886, this sanctuary was constructed of Cyprus wood. With its excellent acoustics, the Sanctuary has been the site for town hall meetings, operas, plays, recitals, and worship services for the past 133 years. Although the church now has modern heating and cooling facilities, you can still look up at the ceiling in the middle of the sanctuary and see the cover where the pipe for the old pot-bellied stove exited. Although the church is rich in history, heritage, and character, the congregation also looks forward, striving to make a difference in this community and abroad today and in the future.
